Freed From Within (FFW) was conceived as a non-profit organization in September of 2002. Its founder, Gary Loy, and seven original board members desired to help individuals battling substance abuse and those returning from incarceration.  In September of 2004, FFW Board Member Bob Metts purchased Lincoln Hills Motel, a run-down building set to be auctioned. The Lincoln Hills Motel was slowly transformed into a property that could house 11 individuals and that contained space for programming. In January 2005, FFW welcomed its first resident client or family member at the renovated Corydon facility. Since 2005, FFW has evolved to meet the needs of its clients. In December 2005, FFW began offering bible study classes and in January 2006 FFW began serving hot meals to the men in their program. In 2006, FFW began hosting Friday Night Game Nights that helped their clients learn to experience positive recreational activities.

Since those early years, FFW has evolved to become a holistic, community-centered, reentry service provider that uses faith as a foundation for recovery from drugs, incarceration, and trauma. The current Executive Director, Pastor John Roberts, developed an application process for individuals seeking admission into the program. Men interested in entering the FFW program, can access an online application or receive a paper copy from the Department of Corrections. Today, FFW is a six-month transitional reentry program that takes a holistic approach to reentry and recovery. Programming includes housing, food, life skills courses, job readiness classes, money management courses, bible study, faith services, and individualized mentoring.
